The Exotic Body opened its doors in 1990 with the vision of being Sacramento’s first piercing studio. Michael Hare, the senior piercer and owner of The Exotic Body, had set new standards in the piercing industry by offering his clients only the highest quality and largest selection of body jewelry, and the extensive knowledge of unique and unusual body modifications. After sixteen years in the piercing industry, The Exotic Body’s reputation as a safe, clean, professional studio has spread across the United States and into Europe and Japan, where Michael has taught numerous seminars on body piercing.The standard of quality at The Exotic Body is prevalent in the large selection of high end and out of the ordinary jewelry, and in the well educated staff who pride themselves on customer service. Everyone who works at The Exotic Body is fully trained in blood borne pathogens, cross contamination prevention, CPR, and First Aid. “We have created an environment that makes our customers feel comfortable, we definitely have an attitude free shop” Says Michael, who knows the importance of helping clients walk through the fear of a piercing or tattoo, be it their first or fiftieth time. Not only is Michael the owner and Senior piercer at The Exotic Body, he also teaches seminars on body piercing. With sixteen years of professional body piercing and body modification experience, his week long seminars are a great way to learn new techniques and gain valuable hands on experience.

About Our Artists
The Exotic Body is well known throughout northern California for being extreme, from tattooing and piercing, to branding and extreme body modifications.In October of 2002, Michael Hare and The Exotic Body were entered into The Guinness Book Of World Records for the most body piercings on one person in a single sitting. With help from friends at Industrial Strength Jewelry Co., it was also the most expensive piercing session on record, with a retail price of over $31,000.00. There were 625 piercings done on one person over the course of the evening, with jewelry covering his entire back, the backs of his arms, and the backs of his legs, that’s 1,250 holes in all.In the year 2000, The Exotic Body moved to its new location in the heart of downtown Sacramento, and expanded it’s studio to include tattooing and non laser tattoo removal. The award winning artists at this studio specialize in custom pieces and cover ups, and work with customers on a personal level to ensure that each and every tattoo is unique. We have a large selection of the highest quality, internally threaded, jewelry available! If we don’t have what you want, we’ll order it- special orders are our specialty. We don’t sell any ‘cheap’ jewelry, yet we have some of the LOWEST prices in Sacramento! Call or come by to compare our prices. We may not be the ‘cheapest’ in town, but when it comes to top-of-the-line jewelry we have some of the most reasonable prices.

If you're shopping around for body jewelry, you're going to find a lot of difference in the pricing- 'cheap' and not-so-cheap.  Here are some of the reasons why:

The BEST jewelry is internally threaded jewelry- the threading, to connect the 'ball' to the 'post', is actually attached to the ball and NOT to the post- and it's far more expensive to produce.  Why is it better? Because it causes less trauma to your piercing when it's inserted!  Fewer traumas means you’re piercing(s) may heal more quickly. Think of it like this: After you've gotten the actual piercing(s), do you really want to have something with a serrated edge to be inserted through the fresh hole(s)?  Probably not.

The manufacturing of internally threaded jewelry is much more difficult, requires more expertise and is more costly- this means that the companies who use this method are more concerned with quality than with profits. Internally threaded jewelry, because of better manufacturing, usually lasts longer- so you save money, in the long run.

All of our steel jewelry is implant-grade surgical steel (316LVM or higher!).  This is important!  Using inferior quality jewelry can cause your piercing to 'reject' (the jewelry) and/or get infected! Do you really want a piece of jewelry in your piercing that ISN'T implant-grade? Especially while it's healing?  Probably not.  Ask your piercer if the jewelry is implant-grade; if it's not, or they don't know, you should think long, and hard, about buying it for initial piercing. Saving $5-$10 and getting low-quality jewelry just isn't a 'good deal.'
